Summary

Dr. Soranyel Gonzalez is a Research Associate at the Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London. Her research focused on the correlation between photocatalytic activity and the photophysical processes involved in solar-to-fuel production by organic and hybrid photocatalysts.

She completed an MSc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Valencia-Spain. Then, she graduated from the same University with a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Sustainable Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Julia Perez and Dr. Raquel Galian. Her graduate work focused on the sustainable development of colloidal metal halide perovskite nanoparticles, where she combined nanoparticle synthesis with optical spectroscopy and electronic microscopy to engineer nanoparticle surfaces and develop nanoparticles with enhanced optical properties for optoelectronic applications. She continued her career as a Postdoc at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMoL), the University of Valencia-Spain, working on nanoparticle assemblies.

In 2020, she continued her research career as a postdoctoral Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Imperial College London in the group of Prof. James Durrant. At Imperial, she implements a highly interdisciplinary approach to addressing the fundamental challenges of organic photocatalysts by using advanced optical transient spectroscopies to gain insight into materials design for solar-driven energy conversion. She contributes to developing hybrid organic-inorganic nanomaterials for energy applications through her focal points in nanoparticle engineering.

Beyond research, she is involved in scientific outreach activities, organising talks and hands-on workshops for students at her research institutions, schools and other organisations, such as the Society of Spanish Research in the UK (SERUK) in the Women Research & Equity Committee.
