Summary

Summary

I joined the Department of Physics in May 2008.

During the first five years I worked in the department's Electronics Instrumentation Workshop on various projects including analogue and digital design (some with FPGAs and CPLDs using VHDL and Verilog), and did the flight PCB layouts for the LISA Pathfinder gravity wave detector (UV Lamp controller boards) and the BepiColombo Mercury (magnetometer PSU) space missions.

Since 2011 I have also been working directly for the Quantum Optics and Laser Science group, and in 2014 I transferred to the group full time. My role is supporting the group’s researchers and PhD students in electronics matters and designing various acquisition and control systems including 2D position sensors, HV piezo drivers and motor controllers. I encourage the use of the Arduino platform within the group (and anyone else who might listen).

I have also taken on additional responsibilities for the Department and the College. These include being Technical Staff Representative for the Department of Physics' Juno committee, and I sit on the Provost's Equality and Diversity Committee. I am also an active member of several of the Equalities Unit sponsored Advisory Groups.
