Summary

Course/Module

Lecturer, Report writing. (Short Courses)

Lecturer, Technical presentations. (Short Courses)

Structural Dynamics - AERO97007

Aims

This course aims to present available methodologies for solving dynamic problems on aerospace structures, to introduce the underlying theory and basic considerations for the numerical modelling of response of structures to time-dependent loads, including those coming from the aerodynamics in aerial vehicles, and to present computer-based techniques to solve for the linear and non-linear dynamic response of structures

Role

Course Leader

Emerging Technology for Green Aviation - AERO70031

Aims

The aim is to introduce the key technological advances, and the corresponding underlying principles, for a greener aviation. This includes the potential advantages of alternative configurations, flow control and drag-reduction using both active and passive systems, load alleviation systems and structural weight-reduction strategies and aircraft end of life and recycling. The module will consist of timetabled lectures and tutorials, delivered by academics with the relevant research expertise.

Role

Lecturer

Structures 2 - AERO50008

Aims

This module builds on Mechanics and Structures 1, and provides a basis for Structures 3. It introduces matrix methods in overall structural analysis (stiffness and flexibility methods), structural dynamics (equations of motion for multi degree-of-freedom problems using force equilibrium, Hamilton’s principle and Lagrange’s equation; free vibrations; periodic and transient loads; modal analysis; damping; continuum) and buckling (stability analysis; buckling of struts; critical buckling load; failure envelopes).

Lecturer
