Thibaut Appel is a postgraduate researcher in the Department of Mathematics, in the Applied and Mathematical Physics section. He joined Imperial College London in 2017 after receiving his MEng from the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics at Bordeaux Institute of Technology in France.
Thibaut's research focus is on the development of rapid computational tools to investigate the instability of three-dimensional boundary layers on aircraft wings. He is currently working on methods ranging from BiGlobal stability analysis to linear and non-linear harmonic Navier-Stokes approaches.
His project has involved strong collaboration with Airbus to support the next generation of high-fidelity methods aiming at improving the design of natural-laminar-flow wings. It is supported by EU-funded framework SSeMID (Stability and Sensitivity Methods for Industrial Design).
