Summary
Dr Hansen is a Senior Lecturer in the Medical Engineering Group within the Mechanical Engineering Department. He received a Dipl.Ing. in Solid Mechanics from the Technical University in Denmark in 1988 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Center for Composite Materials), University of Delaware in 1995.
Dr Hansen joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at Imperial College in 2000 as Lecturer in Orthopaedic Biomechanics. His current research interests are broadly in three related areas: (i) bone properties related to fracture and implant loosening, particularly how these are affected by disease processes and drugs, (ii) cartilage properties, particularly as related to arthritis and joint replacements, (iii) implant performance, particularly loosening and how this performance is related to the interaction with the surrounding natural tissue. Dr Hansen has published over 40 refereed journal papers and a similar number of conference papers in this area.
