Summary

Dr Hansen is a Reader in the Medical Engineering Group within the Mechanical Engineering Department. He received a Dipl.Ing. in Solid Mechanics from the Technical University in Denmark and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Center for Composite Materials) from the University of Delaware, USA.

Dr Hansen joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at Imperial College in 2000 as Lecturer in Orthopaedic Biomechanics. His current research interests are broadly in four related areas:

(i) bone properties related to fracture and implant loosening, particularly how these are affected by disease processes and drugs,

(ii) implant performance, particularly loosening and how this performance is related to the interaction with the surrounding natural tissue,

(iii) as (ii) but with a strong focus on shoulder biomechanics and shoulder implants,

(iv) cartilage properties, particularly as related to arthritis and joint replacements.

Dr Hansen has published over 80 peer reviewed publications which can be found on GoogleScholar and Scopus.
