Overview
My research interests can be divided into three categories:
In geophysics I am interested in the nature of plate tectonics with recent work focussing on the extent of plate tectonics throughout the Solar System and beyond, on exoplanets. I run third and fourth year undergraduate research projects dedicated to understanding this exciting and rapidly developing area of geophysics.
I do work in groundwork theoretical physics mainly concentrating on mechanics and relativity, often with a view to as to how to best communicate key concepts in the field to physics undergraduates.
I physics education research I am primarily interested in threshold concepts and barriers to understanding in physics, particularly at undergraduate degree level.
