Summary

Dr. Zhou has a BEng degree in Engineering Mechanics, and MSc degree in Solid Mechanics from Peking University. Before doing a PhD at Imperial College London, his research was mainly focused on mechanics of materials, including thermo-mechanical behaviour of metal-ceramic functionally graded materials (FGMs) and composite structures, electrochemical-mechanical behaviour of Li-ion battery electrode materials. At Imperial College, Dr. Zhou's research was in materials processing and manufacturing, with a particular focus on light alloys and flexible metal forming technique. His PhD study was funded by the President’s PhD Scholarship of Imperial College London, and his PhD thesis was awarded the 'Unwin Postgraduate Prize' by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in recognition of the best thesis submitted in the academic year 2019. He developed a novel flexible extrusion technology, differential velocity sideways extrusion (DVSE), for forming lightweight curved/streamlined extrusion profiles. This technology is also known as Flextrude®, which has been patented worldwide and will be commercialised by a spin-out company, CurvEx Technology Ltd.

Dr. Zhou’s research interests and experience are in Metal forming and materials modelling, Manufacturing, Computational mechanics, and Mechanics of materials, including metallic materials, metal-ceramic composite materials, energy materials. For research collaborations please feel free to reach out.
