Summary
Dr Yongyun Hwang is a Reader in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London. He received his PhD in the Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LadHyX) at Ecole Polytechnique in 2010. After spending one and half years at the same institution as a post-doctoral researcher, he moved to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at University of Cambridge as a Marie Curie post-doctoral research fellow in 2012. He joined Imperial College London in October 2013. His research interests are rather broadly defined in thoretical and computational fluid dynamics covering:
- Instabilities, transition and turbulence
- Pattern formations in biological fluid systems
- Continuum modelling of active fluids
- Optimization and control of fluid flows
- Scientific computing
He enjoys discovering new and fundamental flow physics from simplified problems rather than simply applying existing theoretical and computational tools to complex multi-physics problems. His work is strongly based on linear and nonlinear stability theories, modern control theory and variational calculus, mathematical modeling, and scientific computing.
