Dr Akhtar is a Strategic Teaching Fellow in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He received BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan as a Lecturer in 2008 and became an Assistant Professor in 2012. He joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Imperial College London as a Teaching Fellow in October 2017 and became a Strategic Teaching Fellow in February 2019.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
His current research interests include distributed voltage control, demand response, renewable energy integration in distribution networks, and smart grids.
