Probationary Academics
For staff on probation there are two levels of support within the Department. Each probationary lecturer is appointed an academic advisor whose role will be to hold an annual meeting with you to review all aspects of your academic progress and help advise on teaching, supervision, research grant applications and visability and complete a probationary review form. Visit the Lecturer Probation page for more information.
In addition, all probationary lecturers will be assigned a teaching buddy – who will sit in on lectures and provide constructive feedback specific to teaching performance.
Coaching
Formal coaching is provided by the Staff Development team. Find out more about Coaching at Imperial.
The department have also identified a number of staff as of specific topics, with a view to offering advice in an informal coaching type role.
Mentoring
If you would like to have a mentor outside your own research area or group but within the Department, please contact the Departmental Operations Manager, Luke White, who will approach an appropriate academic or complete the online form.
If you would like to have a mentor outside the Department then the staff development unit can arrange a pairing.
