Wellcome Trust appoints new Governor

Mark Walport, head of the division of medicine has been appointed one of three new Governors of the Wellcome Trust.

His clinical and research interests focus on immunology and the genetics of rheumatic diseases. He will take up his position on 1 October 2000.

Sir Michael Rutter, Deputy Chairman of the Trust, said: "Mark Walport is an outstanding individual whose expertise and knowledge will ensure that we continue to represent the wide spectrum of biomedical issues and to fulfil our mission of funding research with the aims of improving human and animal heath."
