Group XV - CL18A

Group XIV domain organization
Introduction
Sequence alignments: Human Human/Mouse

CL18A / mannose-like receptor protein 2 is a soluble protein containing an SCP domain and an EGF domain as well as a C-type lectin domain. The SCP domain is found in proteins such as cysteine-rich secretory proteins inolved in mammalian reprouction although the function of the domain is unclear. The protein can be expressed as two isoforms of lengths 249 and 178 amino acids for forms one and two respectively.

The function of this protein is yet to be determined and has so far only been identified at the level of the transcript. Expression of CL18A has been identified in areas of the nervous system, male reproductive system, ear and eye in humans.

The C-type lectin domain contains residues to allow coordination of a calcium ion, further investigation will be needed to determine if this domain is able to bind the ion and sugars.
