Strategy Consultation

We need your help to shape our vision. All our staff, students, alumni and external partners will have a chance to share their insight.
Submit your feedback via the online survey
The consultation will take place between Monday 20 February to Friday 31 March.
Imperial’s University Management Board has agreed to split the strategy:
- Our academic mission, under three pillars: Research and Enterprise; Education and Student Experience; and Societal and Global Engagement.
- Our enablers and cross cutting themes: These describe core things we need to succeed, from our digital and physical presence; our approach to our finances; plans for investing in and supporting our community; the strength of our international brand; to our commitment to sustainability.
In this first phase, we want to address fundamental questions about our academic mission.
The core pillars have been set, but we need your views on the overall vision, and the scope and shape of these areas to ensure we are ready for the future. The Consultation Paper sets out the core questions about our work, it is split into three sections:
- Education and student experience: What do we want to be distinctive about the education and student experience offered by Imperial College London?
- Research and enterprise: How will Research, Innovation and Enterprise at Imperial College London be distinctive and impactful in 20 years’ time?
- Societal and Global Engagement: How can we boldly and authentically develop our social purpose to ensure our leadership in science, technology, medicine and business has the greatest impact locally, nationally and globally?
The consultation paper contains some core questions about our future. It is intended to guide and inform your discussion rather than a definitive list.
How you can get involved
Online survey

Please note the following:
- This survey is anonymous. The data gathered will be visible to the College Strategy Steering Group and Working Group.
- Do feel free to engage with as many questions as you like. If you choose to engage with all pillars, this survey will take around 25-30 minutes to complete.
- Should you wish to leave the survey and resume it later, as long as you re-access the survey from the same browser and the same device, your answers will be saved automatically.
- This survey will stay open until 31 March 2023 and a summary of the feedback will be shared with the whole community in due course.
- We expect online responses to this consultation, but please contact strategy2023@imperial.ac.uk if you need to submit your response in another format.

Heads of all internal departments will be faciltating conversations with staff and students within existing structures to discuss the opportunities in more detail within your area. You will receive further information on how to get involved at a local level.
Focus groups
A series of focus groups during the consultation period will share information about the strategy, explore the three mission pillars in more detail and ask you to share your ideas for what Imperial’s future could look like.
Spaces are limited and participants will be invited to join based on stakeholder group.
What will happen next?
We will report back on what we have heard and we will use your ideas and feedback to complete a draft strategy by summer 2023.
We aim to conduct a final round of consultation before the strategy is published in October 2023.
