We aim to enhance and develop the research environment at Imperial, ensuring all areas of Imperial have a positive and healthy research culture and advocating for ECRs at all levels.

List

We will achieve this by:
  • Working with departments, and the research office, to identify funding agencies and professional bodies which influence the ECR research environment, identify Imperial-affiliated representatives and create a forum for cohering and promulgating Imperial’s strategic goals.
  • Implementing and showcasing examples of best practice within the research environment at Imperial.
  • Ensuring all individuals within the Imperial research ecosystem are aware of their roles and responsibilities as individuals, as part of supervisory teams and as line managers.
  • Working in partnership with the Future Leaders Academy to provide joined-up leadership development programmes.
  • Implementing development opportunities for ECRs which enable good mental health and wellbeing and implementing effective signposting to support offered by the University for the wellbeing of ECRs.
  • Ensuring the quality of research staff line management and supervision is levelled up across Imperial, integrating internal and sector best practices through engagement with national and international bodies activities, projects and frameworks.
  • Reviewing the staff-student boundary, and discrepancies between funders, looking for opportunities to align support and exploring whether some of the benefits which apply to staff could also be applied to PGRs, including those for under-represented groups.
  • Leading, engaging with and fulfilling our commitment to various university-level action plans impacting upon the experience of ECRs.
  • Advocating for ECRs and the development and support they need; at every opportunity we get.
