Step 6. Signing contract
A contract is a legally binding document that both you and the landlord are agreeing to abide by. They can be very difficult to get out of once you have entered them, so be sure that you know what it is you are signing. Before you sign a contract please arrange for this to be checked with the Student Hub team. Please send a copy of your contract together with any questions to: firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also use our online contract checking guide.
Landlord and tenant obligations
As a tenant, you have certain obligations, just as the landlord or agent does. Watch this video to find out what these are.
Tenancy deposit scheme
By law, the agent or landlord is required to put your deposit in a Tenancy Deposit Scheme. These schemes offer an arbitration service to help mediate disputes for failing to return all or part of your deposit at the end of the tenancy.
You should receive confirmation that your deposit has been protected within 30 days of you paying it, not within 30 days of you moving in.
The Tenancy Deposit Service have produced an informative video on the TDS scheme which you can watch on Youtube.
