Financial Documents Video

When making a Tier 4 (General) student visa application you will be required to submit various supporting documents.

The Tier 4 financial requirement is extremely strict, and not meeting it is the main reason applicants get visa applications refused. It is essential that you read our guidance carefully and allow enough time to prepare before making your visa application. Please start by reading our detailed Guide to Meeting the Financial Requirements [pdf]

  1. All documents submitted must be original documents and any that are not in English must have translations that meet the Home Office requirements (see: Translations [pdf]),
  2. Bank statements must also meet Home Office requirements (see: Bank Statements [pdf]),
  3. Bank statements from some banks are not accepted by the Home Office. Please refer to the Home Office website to check if your financial institution is recognised‌ and
  4. Ensure you are aware of the Home Office definition of a financial sponsor‌ (see: Financial sponsor [pdf]).

Please note that the documents required for a student starting a new course of study will be slightly different to the documents required for a continuing student as shown by the checklists below.

Are you a low-risk student?

Certain nationalities are designated as low-risk for the purposes of the Tier 4 application process. Nationals from these countries are not required to submit all documents with their application. Check the Home Office website to see if you are considered a low-risk national.
