PG Cert and PG Dip

Postgraduate Diploma
A part-time course which can be taken as a stand-alone programme or, in some cases, used to build towards an MSc.
How to apply
Progressional levels
These courses are divided into two or three progressional levels of study:
- Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert)
- Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip)
- MSc/MEd
Ways to apply
For each course you will either:
- Apply only to the Certificate in the first instance
- Apply to any/either level in the first instance
Progressing through the levels
There are two different ways to progress through these degrees depending on whether you begin with the Certificate or enter at another level.
Applying to a PG Cert in the first instance
If you apply to the PG Cert in the first instance, you study that level of the qualification only and can choose to graduate with that award.
Alternatively, you can continue to study through the progressional levels and graduate with a PG Dip (if available) and/or MSc/MEd.
Applying to a higher level in the first instance
Many of these courses allow you to enter at the level you wish to graduate with, which means that you could, for example, apply to and graduate with a PG Dip.
Depending on the level of study you choose, you may complete more than one qualification simultaneously. For example:
- If you enter at PG Dip level, you will complete the PG Cert and Dip as part of your studies and graduate with the PG Dip.
- If you enter at MSc level, you will complete the PG Cert, Dip and MSc as part of your studies and graduate with the MSc.
If you have already graduated from one level of study for a course and re-enter the next level of study following a break, you will not have to repeat studies relating to the qualification that you have already gained e.g. if you have a PG Cert, you would not complete it again as part of studying for the same MSc.
