So you're coming to find out about studying at Imperial, but with so much to take in how can you be sure you'll come away with all the information you need?
- Make sure you're all booked in
- Talk to students (and staff)
- Catch a general information talk
- Take a break at one of our catering outlets
- Grab a welcome bag
- Don’t just stick to the academic side
- Take time to explore the local area
- Engage with us… and other visitors
When registering for the Open Day you’ll have the option to book up to three departmental sessions. Bring the barcode you receive as confirmation with you on the day as you’ll need it to check in. If there is a queue at the Welcome Tent when you arrive then come back when it’s a bit quieter – you don’t have to check in before your first session starts; you can do this at any point during the day.
Head to the Information Fair in the Queen’s Lawn Marquee (see '26' on the South Kensington Campus map) to talk to students and staff from our academic departments, as well as staff from student services like the accommodation team and the Disability Advisory Service. They’re there to answer your questions so use the opportunity to find out what’s on offer as a member of our student community.
We run a series of talks throughout the day, from tips on writing a personal statement to what makes a successful Imperial applicant. You don’t have to book these in advance but they do fill up pretty quickly so we recommend heading early to ones that you’d particularly like to hear. We’ll also be recording a selection of our talks for people who can’t make them on the day. You’ll find these on the Open Day page after the event.
Attending an Open Day can be a tiring business, so stay refreshed by visiting the free tea and coffee stand in the Queen's Tower Rooms. Many of our on-campus cafés and restaurants will also be open, which gives you a great opportunity to sample the diverse array of catering options that help fuel our students’ studies!
There’ll be lots of printed information available on the day for you to take away and read at home. Prospective students can pick up a free welcome bag so you’ll have somewhere to put it all, as well as having a memento of your day.
You’re not going to be locked in the library or lecture halls 24/7 (we promise!), so why not take the chance to explore the other parts of campus that will form a significant part of your student experience? Drop by the Tour tent to join one of our accommodation and campus tours, led by one of our current students. You’ll also get to see a few other campus sites along the way.
If you’ve got the time, we recommend exploring the South Kensington area beyond the College gates. Not only do we enjoy proximity to world-famous museums like the Science Museum, the V&A Museum of Art and Design, and the Natural History Museum. The green spaces of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are also on our doorstep if you’re after a little more peace and tranquillity.
It’s a great idea to get a feel for the neighbourhood that you’ll be calling home if you choose to study here.
