Course description

This class teaches the beginnings of data processing using the Pandas library in Python, and 'awk' on the Unix command line. Familiarity with basic command line techniques such as creating text files and copying files is required, as well as some familiarity with Python; we recommend Python for beginners.

You can bring your own laptop; Windows users will need a secure shell client installed (e.g. putty  https://www.putty.org ). Alternatively, you can use the computer lab PCs.

  • Selecting rows of data
  • Selecting columns of data
  • Cutting and joining data
  • Reading and writing data
  • Producing graphs from the data using the Matplotlib Python library
