Your primary supervisor is your main contact for your project and you should meet regularly. Doctoral students and their supervisors are jointly responsible for working together to adhere to the College time-frame of 4 years between registration and submission of the PhD thesis. Although the relationship is one of cooperation, both student and supervisors have individual responsibilities and expectations of each other.

It important to understand what is expected of you as a PhD student, but also what you can expect from your supervisor. It is therefore strongly recommended that you read and discuss the College's Mutual Expectations Document  with your supervisor from the outset of your PhD. This a useful point of reference if you are unsure on how you and your supervisor's roles relate to each other.

You should meet regularly with your supervisor, through one-to-ones, tutorials and group/lab meetings. If you are studying on a tier 4 visa, it is especially important that you meet regularly so that your supervisor can evidence your engagement as part of the visa regulations.

If you are concerned or have any issues with your supervisor, you should contact either the Senior Postgraduate Administrator, the Wellbeing Officer, the Director of Postgraduate Studies, or the PG Tutor. Any such instances will be treated with strict confidentiality.
