About the event

Finding meaning in work is not a “nice to have”. It is a critical component of a good life. But many of us struggle to see the value of our work, or face an environment that actively undermines it. A new job, or a whole new career, can seem like the only solution.

This is wrong. Although there are any number of reasons that work can feel frustrating, research provides a growing understanding of the conditions we all need to experience a sense of purpose professionally.

Also, there are actions we can all take ourselves to feel a sense of meaning at work. And many things that managers and organisations can do to enable this.

In this webinar we will explore the main drivers of meaning (hint: autonomy is key) and show how each of us can re-engineer our work to generate meaning.

We will discuss:

  • The four factors which drive a sense of meaning at work
  • The role of mastery, feedback and values
  • How to find colleagues, customers and others who energise you (and why it matters so much)
  • Why you should aim to interact with the beneficiaries of your work
  • How side gigs and projects can give you a meaning fix
  • When and how to look for a new – more meaningful – job or career

Finally we will explore the concept of intentionality: the idea that we should always be choosing our future even when we face only difficult choices or have limited room for manoeuvre.
