About me

Arash is a research associate in the Human Robotics Group at the department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London with research interests in motor neuroprosthetics, intelligent and learning-based assistive devices, locomotion modeling, analysis, and control.

He obtained his Master’s degree in electrical engineering/control in 2009. During his postgraduate studies, he was working on intersection of machine learning and control. His research was mostly focused on intelligent and learning based systems for state understanding and control. He was a research assistant from Sep 2009 to Feb 2014 at EPFL, and obtained his PhD in electrical engineering in 2014. His thesis was on design and validation of smart knee prostheses (SImOS project), using machine learning techniques to regress the row data, fusion of implantable and wearable sensors to accurately estimate biomechanically meaningful parameters, design and control of a robotic knee simulator and a system for detection of orthopedic implant loosening through vibration analysis. From March 2014 to April 2015 he was a senior scientist at EPFL during which his research was focused on designing a robotic shoulder simulator, activity recognition in stroke patients (Rewire EU project), rehabilitation games for patients with high risk of fall (Farseeing EU project), assistive devices to provide real-time feedback for neuroprosthetics.

Since April 2015, Arash Arami joined Human Robotics group directed by Prof. Etienne Burdet at Imperial College London. He is working on an EU project (Symbitron) on cooperative control of lower limb exoskeleton for spinal cord injury (SCI) subjects. His role includes the modeling of locomotion for SCI patients, multi-joint impedance identification, and exoskeleton cooperative controller design.
