What did you most enjoy about your course?

The MSc HMG lectures concisely but thoroughly covered core aspects of genetics including basics and topics relevant to current research. The MSc also introduced me to bioinformatics which will prove valuable for genomic medicine. The practical side and 6-month research project equipped me with the statistical and technical transitional skills required for a laboratory-based career. The course organisers were very supportive when I independently secured my research project in an NHS lab to provide more experience for my Scientist Training Programme (STP) application.

What did you most appreciate about the Faculty/College?

I will always be grateful for the renowned teaching provided by the MSc in Human Molecular Genetics as it has equipped me with the knowledge required to progress in my career.

What are you doing now/What do you plan on doing after graduation?

After graduating, I completed the 3-year STP and I am now a Registered Clinical Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Part of my work includes analysing variants identified through the 100 000 Genomes Project in an attempt to diagnose patients with rare diseases. A rewarding part of this work is finally giving participating families an answer following a long diagnostic odyssey and reporting a genetic diagnosis which will directly impact patient management.
