Automation of the interpretation of TOFD results
Time Of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) is a well-established technique for the NDT of internal cracks, which is particularly powerful for determining crack sizes. TOFD images along lines or over areas of structures can be obtained by scanning the TOFD setup, just as is done for C Scans. However the accurate interpretation of the TOFD results requires careful processing. This can be done by a skilled operator, by examining the TOFD measurements one by one. This project aims to automate that process so that the controlling computer will perform the processing reliably over all the data of a scan.
