AB - The project is to investigate the possibilities for automatically removing the rib and residual backbones from bacon backs, prior to vehicle in practical trials but it is envisaged that a successful deboner would ultimately use a purpose built machine. The work is being carried out with the co-operation of Glengrove Ltd, a Sussex meat processing Company. The research is split into four main areas - Sensing of bone; Method of separating bones from meat; Handling presentation and gripping the meat; Software for sensor signal interpretation and control of robot and co-operating hardware.
