Farid
MSc Reproductive and Developmental Biology
I chose Imperial for its diverse community and because the unique Master’s course aligned most with my interests.
Farid from Azerbaijan began his journey in science at Alanya University in Türkiye, where he studied a BSc Genetics and Bioengineering focused on cancer biology. After finishing his Bachelor’s degree, Farid worked at the Human Genetics Laboratory at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, where he became more curious about male infertility and the global drop in testosterone levels.
Farid shares how our unique Master’s course aligned with his interests and led him to Imperial, why he enjoys student life in the UK and his plans are for the future.
Why Imperial?
After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science, my next goal was to study at a top university that would prepare me for a successful future career.
My course is professionally designed and covers a wide range of topics.
I applied to several global top ten universities and received offers from institutions across the UK, Europe and the US. In the end, I chose Imperial for its diverse community and because the MSc Reproductive and Developmental Biology course aligned most with my interest in male infertility.
To help with my decision, I reached out to alumni from the Faculty of Medicine to get their thoughts on the course and their experiences at Imperial. Everything they shared was incredibly positive, which gave me the confidence and motivation to apply.
My course is professionally designed and covers a wide range of topics – from basic biology to complex medical cases. This unique approach to explore and learn not only the biological aspects of medicine, but also its real-world applications. It’s a great course because it prepares you to become both an embryologist and a scientist after graduation.
Getting a scholarship
After receiving my offer from Imperial, my next goal was to get a scholarship to cover my tuition and living costs. Fortunately, I was awarded an Azerbaijan State Scholarship – it covers all my expenses, allowing me to focus on my studies and get the most out of my Master’s experience.

The Imperial community
In my first few weeks at Imperial, I met lots of friends through welcome events and activities. The student community here is so diverse and there’s so many groups, societies and clubs you can join – there's really something for everyone! As an international student, I’ve especially enjoyed learning about all the cultures and traditions of other students at Imperial.
Student life in the UK
As a huge football fan, being in the UK has been a dream come true. The football culture here is amazing and I’m now close to some of the most famous stadiums in the world! The most unforgettable game for me was the match between the Azerbaijani team Qarabakh FC and Tottenham Hotspur during the Europa League – the atmosphere during that game was unbelievable.
Living and studying in London has also made travelling easy – I've visited over ten countries during my time at Imperial.
