Summary
My PhD has focused on the links between HIV, mental health, and quality of life in sub-Saharan Africa.
Using data from a long-running cohort study in Manicaland, Zimbabwe, I have built a mathematical model to assess the impact of a problem-solving therapy for depression on the HIV epidemic in Manicaland. I have also used health economic approaches to determine whether this intervention is cost-effective.
As well as analyses focusing on Zimbabwe, I have used quantitative data from a large cluster randomised trial to explore the effect of universal test and treat policies on depression and quality of life among people living with HIV in South Africa and Zambia.
This work has been under the supervision of Dr Katharina Hauck, Professor Simon Gregson, and Dr Michael Pickles.
Before my PhD, I worked on a range of projects, including an analysis of the prevalence of hypertension among people living with HIV, an assessment of the burden of chlamydia in Bristol, and an exploration of bowel morbidity outcomes among individuals receiving different anti-helminthic treatments in Uganda.
