AB - Measurements are presented of the forces experienced on a series of two-dimensional bodies in plane oscillatory flow over the Keulegan-Carpenter number range 3 to 70. As KSUPc increases above a value of about 15, flat plates, diamond and circular cylinders show similar variations of drag coefficient. A square section cylinder has a different behaviour and shows evidence of being sensitive to the turbulence in the wake flow swept back past the body. Flow visualisation studies demonstrate the importance of large discrete vortices. (A)
