Aaltonen T, Abazov VM, Abbott B, et al., 2014, Observation of s-channel production of single top quarks at the tevatron, Physical Review Letters, Vol: 112, ISSN: 0031-9007
We report the first observation of single-top-quark production in the s channel through the combination of the CDF and D0 measurements of the cross section in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The data correspond to total integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb−1 per experiment. The measured cross section is σs=1.29+0.26−0.24 pb. The probability of observing a statistical fluctuation of the background to a cross section of the observed size or larger is 1.8×10−10, corresponding to a significance of 6.3 standard deviations for the presence of an s-channel contribution to the production of single-top quarks.
Abe K, Adam J, Aihara H, et al., 2014, Precise measurement of the neutrino mixing parameter theta(23) from muon neutrino disappearance in an off-axis beam, Physical Review Letters, Vol: 112, ISSN: 0031-9007
New data from the T2K neutrino oscillation experiment produce the most precise measurement of the neutrino mixing parameter θ23. Using an off-axis neutrino beam with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV and a data set corresponding to 6.57×10 20 protons on target, T2K has fit the energy-dependent νμ oscillation probability to determine oscillation parameters. The 68% confidence limit on sin 2(θ23) is 0.514+0.055−0.056 (0.511±0.055), assuming normal (inverted) mass hierarchy. The best-fit mass-squared splitting for normal hierarchy is Δm2 32= (2.51±0.10)×10−3eV2/c4 (inverted hierarchy: Δm2 13= (2.48±0.10)×10−3eV2/c4). Adding a model of multinucleon interactions that affect neutrino energy reconstruction is found to produce only small biases in neutrino oscillation parameter extraction at current levels of statistical uncertainty.

Aaltonen T, Abazov VM, Abbott B, et al., 2014, Combination of measurements of the top-quark pair production cross section from the Tevatron Collider, Physical Review D: Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology, Vol: 89, ISSN: 1550-2368
We combine six measurements of the inclusive top-quark pair (t¯t) production cross section (σt¯t) from data collected with the CDF and D0 detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron with proton-antiproton collisions at √s=1.96 TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 8.8 fb−1. We obtain a value of σt¯t=7.60±0.41 pb for a top-quark mass of mt=172.5 GeV. The contributions to the uncertainty are 0.20 pb from statistical sources, 0.29 pb from systematic sources, and 0.21 pb from the uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The result is in good agreement with the standard model expectation of 7.35+0.28−0.33 pb at next-to-next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to leading logarithms in perturbative QCD.

Abe K, Adam J, Aihara H, et al., 2014, Observation of electron neutrino appearance in a muon neutrino beam, Physical Review Letters, Vol: 112, ISSN: 0031-9007
The T2K experiment has observed electron neutrino appearance in a muon neutrino beam produced 295 km from the Super-Kamiokande detector with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV. A total of 28 electron neutrino events were detected with an energy distribution consistent with an appearance signal, corresponding to a significance of 7.3σ when compared to 4.92±0.55 expected background events. In the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata mixing model, the electron neutrino appearance signal depends on several parameters including three mixing angles θ12, θ23, θ13, a mass difference Δm232 and a CP violating phase δCP. In this neutrino oscillation scenario, assuming |Δm232|=2.4×10−3 eV2, sin2θ23=0.5, and Δm232>0 (Δm232<0), a best-fit value of sin22θ13=0.140+0.038−0.032 (0.170+0.045−0.037) is obtained at δCP=0. When combining the result with the current best knowledge of oscillation parameters including the world average value of θ13 from reactor experiments, some values of δCP are disfavored at the 90% C.L

Abazov VM, Abbott B, Acharya BS, et al., 2014, Search for the X(4140) state in B+ -> J/psi phi K+ decays with the D0 detector, Physical Review D: Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology, Vol: 89, ISSN: 1550-2368
We investigate the decay B+→J/ψϕK+ in a search for the X(4140) state, a narrow threshold resonance in the J/ψϕ system. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb−1 of p¯p collisions at √s=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We observe a mass peak with a statistical significance of 3.1 standard deviations and measure its invariant mass to be M=4159.0±4.3(stat)±6.6(syst) MeV and its width to be Γ=19.9±12.6(stat)+3.0−8.0(syst) MeV.
Abazov VM, Abbott B, Acharya BS, et al., 2014, Study of CP-violating charge asymmetries of single muons and like-sign dimuons in p(p)over-bar collisions, Physical Review D: Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology, Vol: 89, ISSN: 1550-2368
We measure the inclusive single muon charge asymmetry and the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in pˉp collisions using the full data set of 10.4 fb−1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The standard model predictions of the charge asymmetries induced by CP violation are small in magnitude compared to the current experimental precision, so nonzero measurements could indicate new sources of CP violation. The measurements differ from the standard model predictions of CP violation in these asymmetries with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations. These results are interpreted in a framework of B meson mixing within the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa formalism to measure the relative width difference ΔΓd/Γd between the mass eigenstates of the B0 meson system and the semileptonic charge asymmetries adsl and assl of B0 and B0s mesons, respectively.
