AB - Inspite of important advances in therapeutic interventions for patients with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and congestive heart failure (CHF), the prevalence of these conditions continues to rise. Accurate and reproducible assessment of ventricular function and mass is essential for diagnosis of ventricular dysfunction and assessment of prognosis, as well as for guiding therapeutic interventions and monitoring therapy. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is ideally suited for fulfilling this task. We review here how CMR can be applied in CHF incorporating techniques to assess strain, scarring and fibrotic change as well as viability and perfusion, both in clinical practice and in research.
