Single Molecule Detection (SMD), which enables measurement of structural and chemical variance of apparently identical single molecules, has been one of the ultimate goals in chemical analysis. With the spatial dimension decreased to that of individual molecules, nanopores and nanopipettes have the capability to analyze charged targets at single-molecule level. I intend to modify aptamers on the surface of nanopipette for single molecule detection of proteins, which might give insight into the interaction between aptamers and target proteins.
