News story

Our annual Bugs, Birds and Beasts Day will help you discover the wonderful world of bugs and creatures with which we share the planet

Every year we hold a free event for all the family in the beautiful surrounds of Silwood Park, which has an extensive 100ha of grassland and woodland.  These undisturbed, natural habitats host many ecological experiments and keep wildlife safe.  Explore a host of exhibits, demonstrations and activities that will help you learn about the wonderful species all around us.

Researchers and nature organisations talk about their projects and the animals they study: sparrows, dragonflies, spiders, beetles and many others.  You will also be able to go on a bug hunt, take part in pond dipping and view chicken eggs as they develop.

Example Activities

  • Falconry display
  • Live chicken egg development
  • Jurassic lab exhibits
  • Pond dipping
  • Bug hunts
  • Interactive eDNA activity
  • A bug's nightmare garden - a carnivorous plant display
  • Interactive tree of life explorer
  • Microbial fuel cells
  • Bumble bee exhibit

There are usually also exhibits and information stands from the following conservation organisations:

  • Wildlife in Ascot
  • RSPB Wokingham and Bracknell Local Group

Plus BBQ and refreshments!
