Summary

Research on mechanical property characterization and fatigue failure mechanism of additive manufacturing titanium alloyLightweight materials (titanium. e.g.), structure weight reducing design and less amount of waste in the production process are main targets in aero industry and additive manufacturing (AM) method is the approach for the aim. However, so far, most of the AM applications in the aero industry are limited to none-load-bearing or functional parts. Typical defects exist in AM parts such as porosity, coarse grains and residual stress which result in degraded mechanical performance, especially the fatigue property. Therefore, this project aims to establish the relations between microstructure and fatigue performance and predict the fatigue life according to the simulation model and characterization of AM parts.
