Steven Chambers Breaking down financial barriers

After being contacted through the College’s Annual Fund activity, alumnus and donor Roy White, Former Chairman of Primagraphics Ltd, set up a scholarship scheme for undergraduate students in the Departments of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering.

"It is vital in an increasingly competitive higher education market that Imperial maintains its excellence in teaching and research. It is important to me as a graduate that the College’s global reputation is sustained. This is the reason why I have set up the Roy White Scholarships to support talented undergraduates from financially disadvantaged backgrounds."

Lee Family Scholars In 2002, alumnus Dr Richard Lee (Chemical Engineering 1960, PhD 1964), Director of Textile Alliance Limited, donated a £2 million gift through the Lees Charitable Foundation to establish an endowed scholarship for postgraduate students.

The Lee Family scholarships are now awarded annually to students of Chinese origin from Hong Kong and mainland China on the basis of academic excellence. So far the College has welcomed four students who have joined us to study and research subjects in disciplines such as Environmental Engineering and Clinical Sciences.

More recently, alumnus Alan Howard (Chemical Engineering 1986), CEO of Brevan Howard Asset Management Ltd, pledged £750,000 towards the Centenary Campaign to establish a scholarship programme for students.
