watercolour tea painting

About Tea/Watercolour painting

A limited palette tea/ watercolour class to explore shape, form and tone. There is no need to try to mimic the colours seen within the still life. A limited palette encourages an active and inventive use of where to apply pigment. This quickly allows access to explore painting without overloading the material options. There is also a painting demonstration of a few different application and removal techniques.

Preparation:

You will need:

Materials: A4 or A3 heavy weight paper- ideally watercolour paper

HB pencil and eraser

2 watercolours or make your own *

1 or 2 soft brushes

Tissue/ cotton ball/cotton pad

Water and a couple of mixing pots

* Make your own watercolours by strongly brewing a tea bag in 3 tablespoons of water and leave until cold. I recommend a black tea and a pink fruit tea, as demonstrated in the class.

Things to work from: Set up a small still life
