Global burden of sub-optimal hypertension treatment and its determinants

How hypertension treatment and control vary across the world

High blood pressure is the leading risk factor for mortality and morbidity worldwide. Treatment with antihypertensive medication can reduce the risk of diseases associated with it. However, data are scarce on how well countries are doing to deal with hypertension, especially in low- and middle-income countries. We also do not know whether countries should focus on diagnosing/identifying more patients with hypertension, treating more patients, or making sure provided treatment are effective to bring blood pressure under control. My project produces the evidence needed to understand how different countries perform in hypertension treatment and which action can bring the biggest improvement in different countries.

Biography

I am currently a research fellow in School of Public Health, Imperial College London. I am working on the global patterns of multiple risk factors for non-communicable diseases and their related treatment coverage.
