Research Interests

My research interests mainly involve clastic sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and reservoir characterisation. Research studies range from outcrop-based projects looking at different clastic depositional systems through to those revolving around subsurface datasets, including core, well log and 3D seismic data. Many of my projects involve the application of sedimentary facies and sequence analysis to better understand the characterisation and fluid flow response of clastic reservoirs. The latter involves integration with other disciplines, most notably reservoir engineering. This multidisciplinary approach is also a feature of the research group that I lead (‘Sedimentary Basins, Structures and Fluids’), that is involves research ranging from the pore scale through to mountain belts (and many things in between).

  • Depositional and stratigraphic controls on clastic sedimentary environments
  • Characterisation, fluid flow and hydrocarbon recovery in complex clastic reservoirs
  • Basin studies for petroleum exploration and play evaluation
