Summary

Dr. Romeo R. Rácz is a scientist-engineer and inventor recognised for his interdisciplinary expertise at the intersection of neuroscience, sensor engineering, and hardware artificial intelligence. His career is marked by his work in neurotechnology, notably developing scalable electrophysiology techniques (jULIEs) and pioneering in brain tumor margin detection (BAMBI) and neuroprosthetics. He holds an Advanced Research Fellow position at the Imperial College London's Brain-Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, where he established a multimodal experimental framework for glioblastoma research and progressed translation of the emerging neurosurgical and therapeutic avenues from his work.

Additionally, he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, a Visiting Researcher at The Francis Crick Institute, and involved in postdoctoral research at multiple prestigious institutes. His contributions to the field include the invention of multiple patents, such as electrochemical wire arrays and visual implants for vision restoration. Dr Rácz co-founded Metacognis, the first scientific AI spin-off from The Francis Crick Institute committed to accelerating industrial innovation across biotech, food,  and cosmetics sectors using proprietary artificial intelligence methods.
His work has been recognised and supported through various awards and grants, including the Francis Crick Institute Translational Fellowship. His research has been selected for impactful programs like Imperial's MedTech SuperConnector (2019) and the Cancer Research Horizons (2023) accelerators, highlighting his role in bringing innovative solutions like BAMBI closer to patients.
