Did you know?

In 2015-16, over 90% of our enrolled PhD students were funded through the Department, industry or other studentships.

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we recruit approximately 60 PhD students every year. We welcome applications for PhD study from suitably qualified applicants throughout the year.

There are several ways students can find their ideal PhD project: proposing a research project to a potential supervisor directly, contacting a research group to discuss possible projects, applying for one of our specific PhD studentships, or applying through a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). Use the links below to explore these options further.

No matter what subject area or project you are interested in, it is important that you contact your prospective supervisor to discuss eligibility and funding before you submit your formal application to the College. Please be aware we are not able to review speculative applications which do not name a supervisor. More detail on the application process can be found on our How to apply pages.
