Global Summer School Introduction

Imperial’s Global Summer School offers an intensive academic programme, giving students a taste of what it is like to learn at a world-leading university.

Applying to this programme is an excellent opportunity to expand your subject knowledge in physics, engineering or medicine and add weight to a future university application.

In the academic sessions, you will be taught by experienced faculty staff in your chosen learning stream. The last few days of the programme will focus on a team project challenge aimed at answering real-world problems.

To attend our Global Summer School you must apply and be accepted. This is a fee-charging programme.

Exclusively online in 2021, the programme will be hosted on Microsoft Teams. Lectures, seminars, project work, masterclasses and social programme activities will be hosted live, giving you the chance to interact with Imperial staff and students from around the world.

Programme summary

Engineering stream (week one)

• Combining elements of engineering and design, this stream will expose you to a range of content across this discipline. Through specialist workshops, you’ll develop key engineering skills and work in groups to find solutions to real engineering challenges, through sessions delivered by various Imperial engineering departments.

Medicine and Life Sciences stream (week one)

• Through a combination of lectures and seminars, Medicine and Life Sciences will introduce you to key research techniques and new subject content. You will also learn key clinical skills in workshops led by health professionals.

Physics stream (week one)

• This stream focuses on the physics and mathematics of the central concept in the physical sciences. Through lectures and interactive seminars, you’ll expand your theoretical knowledge and encounter new techniques.

STEM challenge (week two)

• We want to test your creativity and entrepreneurship in an interdisciplinary STEM challenge, created by Imperial Enterprise Lab for you to collaborate and compete in during the week.

Masterclasses (Both weeks)

• Learn how to write outstanding applications, creative cover letters and outstanding CV’s from Imperial’s Student Recruitment team.
