Summary

I began my training as a chemist at the University of Bristol, before completing an MSc in Science, Media, and Communication at Cardiff University. I then undertook a PGCE in Secondary Science Education at St Mary’s University.

I joined the Department of Chemistry as a Teaching Technician in 2020, the core of my role is to support the teaching labs for first and second year UG students. As well as this I coordinate the departmental outreach programs, including the Sutton Trust Summer School, Chemistry Taster Days, and work experience.

I regularly undertake public engagement activities outside Imperial, for example: The Science Museum. In 2022, I created and ran a series of workshops in the Technicians: The David Sainsbury Gallery as part of their live program for schools, and have run it at the Great Exhibition Road Festival in 2022 and 2023. The technicians contributing to the Gallery and live program won the Royal Society Hauksbee Award 2023 for our 'tireless efforts in tackling the critical technician skills shortage and their invaluable contributions to various industries'.

In addition to outreach work, I am on the steering committee for the Laboratory Technician Apprentice Scheme – a joint venture between Departments of Chemistry and BioEngineering – and play a leading role in managing and training the apprentices.
