The Department of Aeronautics has an excellent reputation for its cutting edge aerospace teaching and research.

We offer three undergraduate degrees, all of which are professionally accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This dual accreditation demonstrates the broad base of engineering, computational and analytical skills that they deliver, as well as the specific knowledge and experience required for careers in the aeronautical industry.

We have an excellent reputation for our research in the aeronautical engineering field, and in those fields requiring advanced analysis in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, structures and materials.

The strengths that have contributed to our success include the interplay between computation and experimentation, the search for advancing physical understanding, and the dedication both to long-term fundamental research and to research that tackles the more immediate needs of industry and government. Our reputation is based on a number of factors, including excellent equipment, close contact with industry, and talented, enthusiastic staff.
