Detail about Ananya
My research
During the summer of 2021, I will be doing a short research placement focusing on Transition to Zero Pollution. We are looking to develop a model that encourages zero-pollution and water sustainability in the mineral extraction industry.
My inspiration
In the summer of 2017, I was able to participate in an expedition under the guidance of Dr Ulyana Horodskyj where I studied climate and geology in Iceland. The ability to interact with the world around me while applying maths and physics principles was absolutely thrilling.
Who is your STEM hero?
Inge Lehmann, the geophysicist known for discovering the molten inner core. Being fearless in curiosity, Inge's discovery encouraged a host of other developments in other fields.
Most significant discovery/invention?
In geophysics, the seismometer. In planetary science, the Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR). This has enabled us to monitor natural hazards such as earthquakes and volcanoes.
Career options after study
Research/academia, carbon analyst, sustainability consultant, data analyst, planetary mission administrator, seismologist, satellite operator, etc.
My hobbies
I absolutely love bringing individuals together in ideation and thus have always been involved in organising a host of community societies and events. I also love hiking and dancing.
