Join us on LGBTQ+ STEM Day as we celebrate some of the scientists who are helping to make the world a better and more inclusive place!

About this Event

Tune in as we shine a (metaphorical) spotlight on some of the fantastic LGBTQ+ scientists at Imperial – and beyond – in this celebration of STEM and the people who are helping to make a world a better and more inclusive place.

We’ve got a great line-up of people who will be sharing more about their experiences as LGBTQ+ scientists, as well as a little bit about their work, pushing the boundaries of discovery in fields as diverse as space science, climate change and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic – amongst others.

In a discussion chaired by the President of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Professor Tom Welton, we’ll hear from scientists including:

  • Dr Julia Stawarz – Royal Society University Research Fellow in the Space and Atmospheric Physics group of Imperial’s Department of Physics
  • Dr Ben Britton – Reader in Metallurgy and Microscopy in Imperial’s Department of Materials
  • Dr Lucy Okell – Senior Lecturer & Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow in the School of Public Health and part of the Imperial College Covid Response team
  • Dan Hdidouan – PhD student in climate change and renewable energy at Imperial’s Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP)
  • Dr Mike Cox – Lecturer in Microbial Ecology and the Respiratory Microbiome at the University of Birmingham
