About Nathalie Seddon

Nathalie Seddon is Professor of Biodiversity at the University of Oxford, Founding Director of the Nature-based Solutions Initiative and co-lead of the Biodiversity and Society Programme at the Oxford Martin School.

Nathalie trained as an evolutionary ecologist at Cambridge University and has over 20 years of research experience in a range of ecosystems across the globe. As a University Research Fellow of the Royal Society, she developed broad research interests in understanding the origins and maintenance of biodiversity and its relationship with global change. Her work now focuses on determining the ecological and socioeconomic effectiveness of Nature-based Solutions to societal challenges, and how to increase the influence of robust biodiversity science on the design and implementation of climate and development policy.

Nathalie advises governments, UN agencies, and businesses on Nature-based Solutions and is a Friend of COP26, i.e. one of around 30 global experts currently advising the UK government on its Presidency of the UNFCCC’s climate change conference, COP26.

About the seminar series

The Changing Planet seminar series is run by students and staff on the Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet (SSCP) Doctoral Training Program. It offers the chance to hear the latest in understanding, adapting to and mitigating environmental problems, complementing the diversity of environmental research at Imperial College London and beyond.
