Application form questions

Please read this MultiSci Application form guidance carefully and thoroughly before completing your MultiSci application form - this contains the questions you will be asked to answer instead of a personal statement

Log into the My Imperial portal. The application form will ask you to provide:-

  • Your education history with grades or predicted grades for studies which are still in progress.
  • Your nationality/visa status. Since there are nationality/residence eligibility criteria associated with the studentship, we will ask for your nationality and residence status. Please see the eligibility criteria for more information about residence eligibility.
  • Further information about submitting evidence of qualifications, please see the College's apply for a research programme page.

Research themes

The research themes, as listed below, are broad and encompass an extensive and wide range of research areas. Within the online form, you will be asked to rank these areas in order of your preference and provide three key phrases. The purpose of the key phrases is to further define your research interests. You will not be restricted to working within these areas – your research interests may evolve or change as you carry out project rotations in year 1 of your studentship.  We have provided examples of key phrases in the FAQs section.

  • The battle against infections
  • Understanding disease mechanisms in humans
  • Realising the power of big data to improve health

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Statement

MultiSci aims for a fair, accessible recruitment and selection process that is free from bias (conscious or unconscious) towards applicant gender, race, age, disability, or socio-economic background. This aligns with UKRI and MRC policies and principles for equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as Imperial College London’s EDI Strategy. To do this, and to ensure that candidate selection is based on aptitude and potential for successfully completing a PhD with MultiSci, we will remove personal details where possible (name, gender, age, race, disability declaration) from your application before sending for review/scoring.

The MultiSci administrative team will coordinate the process of redacting information, and providing relevant, anonymised, sections of your application form to reviewers/scorers. All data will be stored securely, with password protection and limited access.

Why are we still asking for this data?

To monitor our recruitment and selection processes, we still need to collect EDI-related data. You will be asked to provide it in the application form, but it will be anonymised before analysis. We value a diverse student and research community and if we find the MultiSci application process could be a potential barrier to this, we will take positive action to try and change it.

Unless a question is indicated as mandatory, you can choose not to provide us with requested information – your application will be treated the same way regardless of what you decide to share with us.

For more information, please refer to the MultiSci frequently asked questions page, and for any queries not covered there, please email the PG Team (feopostgradtm@imperial.ac.uk).
