Jeremy Fernando, Senior Teaching Fellow

Jeremy is a Senior Teaching Fellow, specialising in Financial & Management Accounting and is both a qualified accountant and a qualified teacher. Having obtained a degree in Accounting from the University of Kent at Canterbury, Jeremy started his career working in the City with Kidsons Impey completing his training as a Chartered Accountant, and worked for a variety of clients including Arsenal FC, L'Oreal, Nissan and the NHS.  Having decided on a career in teaching, Jeremy then obtained his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (adult education) and has now been teaching Accounting for 20 years, at the University of London (Birkbeck College), City University, Kingston University, London School of Economics and Helsinki School of Economics.

Professor Franco Sassi, Professor of International Health Policy & Economics

Franco Sassi holds a Chair in International Health Policy and Economics and is the Director of the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Innovation. He is also a Senior Health Economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development - OECD, Paris (on leave) - where he developed and was responsible for the Organisation's Public Health Programme. His work has been aimed at assessing the impacts of public policies to tackle major chronic diseases and their predisposing risk factors, including poor nutrition, physical inactivity, alcohol and tobacco use, and a range of environmental and social exposures. Prior to joining the OECD, Franco was a senior lecturer in health policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and director of the graduate programme in Health Policy, Planning and Financing.

Dr Pedro Rosa Dias, Associate Professor of Health Economics

Pedro Rosa Dias works on health economics in developing countries, inequalities in health and healthcare and the effects of educational policy on health outcomes. Before joining Imperial College London he held academic positions at the Universities of Sussex and York. Pedro has a PhD in Economics from the University of York and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Professor James Barlow, Chair in Technology & Innovation Management

James Barlow has been a Professor of Technology and Innovation Management (Healthcare) at Imperial College Business School since 2003. He was co-founder of the Innovation Studies Centre and was Principal Investigator and a Director of the Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC). His research, teaching and consultancy focuses on the adoption, implementation and sustainability of innovation in healthcare systems. He has led or been involved in many research and consulting projects around the world and has also worked extensively on innovation in housing provision and other housing policy issues. As well as his research and teaching, he advises and consults for government, healthcare services and industry and has worked with companies from the medical technology, pharmaceutical, ICT and construction sectors.

Dr Laure de Preux, Assistant Professor

Laure is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School, and affiliated to the Centre for Health Economics & Policy Innovation. Her research interests lie in environmental and health economics. She works on climate change policies’ evaluation, the impact of health insurance on lifestyles, and the determinants of health with a particular focus on the effect of climate and pollution on individual’s behaviour and healthcare utilisation. Laure was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award for PhD supervision in 2017 and the Teaching Excellence Award for undergraduate teaching in 2018. 

Dr Elena Pizzo, Senior Health Economist

Elena is a Senior Health Economist at University College London and a Visiting Lecturer at Imperial College Business School where she was previously a Research Associate. She is particularly interested in economic evaluation of health care technologies and interventions, clinical decision analysis and, more generally, in measurement of health and distributional aspects of health policy. She previously held a research post at the Department of Economics, Ferrara University, where she collaborated to a multi-year research project and undertook an economic evaluation of a Regional Colorectal Cancer Screening Program.
