We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to undertake high quality research into the human embryonic stem cell derivatives for vascular grafts. The Group are committed to the study of stem cell biology and cardiovascular regenerative medicine, linking basic biological advances to the clinic.
This post is funded by the Medical Research Council, and is part of a project grant awarded to Dr Foldes and Professor Harding at the National Heart and Lung Institute. The post is based at Imperial College, Hammersmith Campus.
Duties and responsibilities
The emphasis of the role involves culture and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells, and functional characterisation and 3D manipulation of hESC-derived endothelial cells.
You will have a PhD degree in Biological Sciences, ideally in Cellular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Medical Technology or a closely related discipline, or equivalent industrial or commercial experience. You should have in depth knowledge of cell culture and manipulation, ideally pluripotent stem cell culture, and will be familiar with wet-lab based approaches and techniques, especially stem and cardiovascular cell biology, and have a track record of independent bio-research. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills are essential. You will have the ability to work autonomously and take responsibility in solving problems using innovative and flexible thinking. You should integrate with the group with a cooperative, enthusiastic and flexible approach.
This post is full-time and fixed-term for a period of two years in the first instance.
