Job summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London to work in the area of singular stochastic PDEs. The position is funded through a grant held by Professor Martin Hairer (Chair in Probability and Stochastic Analysis) and the post holder will work directly with Professor Hairer and his group.

Duties and responsibilities

The post holder will work on a problem related to the analysis of singular stochastic PDEs or other space-time stochastic processes. The concrete problem(s) will be determined after discussion with the successful candidate.

The post holder is also expected to contribute to the academic life of Professor Hairer’s research group and the wider stochastic analysis group at Imperial, in particular to interact scientifically with other research staff and students, as well as organise and participate in seminars.

Essential requirements

The essential requirements for this post are as follow:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics
• Strong background in probability theory
• Strong background in analysis
• Experience with stochastic PDEs
• Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research, with a good publication record, commensurate with career stage
• The ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods
• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
• Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to deal with a wide range of people, and to communicate complex information clearly
• The ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team.

Further information

The position is fixed term for 24 months. The expected start date is 1 September 2019 or soon thereafter.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £34,397 - £37,486 per annum.
